Friction stir welding on two machines
FSW joins aluminium below its melting point: a rotating tool generates frictional heat, softens the material along the joint line and stirs the two edges into one another. Two machines run the process on aluminium structures.

Minimal defects
Nothing melts and re-solidifies, so solidification cracks and gas porosity do not form in the joint.

The weld is made from the parent aluminium alone, without wire or electrode.

Frictional heat from the rotating tool replaces the welding arc.

Good mechanical properties
The stirred zone keeps a fine grain structure, which suits load-bearing extruded profiles.

Profiles are clamped and joined without bevelling the edges first.
